General Counseling Program (GCP)

We find solutions to life’s most difficult people problems…

Unexpected stresses can cause debilitating anxiety and infringe on normal life functioning, not to mention the challenges faced in managing depression, grief and loss or adjustment problems.  IAI’s licensed therapists recognize the impact of these conditions and develop a personalized treatment plan to empower our clients in establishing and maintaining healthy life patterns and coping skills.

“My counselor is awesome. She knows when and where to go in our sessions. I learned several techniques to cope with stressors and how to identify emotions leading to resulting actions. The sessions exceeded my expectations.” - client confidential

IAI’s anger management group is both experiential and didactic. The therapist teaches a skill, demonstrates, and has the class practice each skill together. These skills are then assigned as homework to be put to use in real life situations and then the experience is debriefed in the group during the next class session. Participants learn to examine their own behavior for dysfunction, to practice optimum conflict resolution skills and to defuse and remain unreactive to others’ anger. The certificate of completion for this Anger Management Class is accepted by area courts and judges, CPS case workers, as well as probation and parole officers.

Anyone can fall subject to mental or emotional illness in their lifetime. A traumatic event, the devastating loss of a relationship or all one’s possessions, an inherited psychological disorder….

Anyone who has ever dealt with a mental health issue in their family knows the devastating effects it can have on everyone’s well-being. There is worry for the loved one’s lack of judgment and their inability to care for themselves. Conflicts arise and finances are wasted as the person comes back and forth for help and then rejects that help and treatment, and on and on… Hope and disappointment…. Divisions form and remain and so does the pain and worry. There are times that boundaries must be set for the good of the person with the mental health issue as well as for the survival of the remainder of the family. You also know the loneliness of this problem, the lack of understanding, support and intervention programs available to those who cannot function well enough to keep a job or the benefits that come with employment.
