What Is Mediation? We find solutions to relationship problems……… Mediation is a forum in which the mediator facilitates communication between parties to promote reconciliation, settlement or understanding between them. The mediator does not impose his own judgment on the issues of the parties (Tex. Civ. Prac. & Rem. Code). Therefore, the two parties truly come up with their own agreement according to the terms that they want, unlike many of the other conflict resolution processes used in our society. Mediation promotes peaceful, effective, and thorough conflict resolution. This process can be used for disagreements within the family including divorce and custody issues, conflicts between couples, and parent/child conflicts. Mediation can also be used by schools for interpersonal conflicts such as those between students, teachers and students, and teachers and parents. Corporations can include mediation in their employee grievance procedures. Neighbors can use mediation to resolve property disputes. Any situation in which conflict arises can benefit from mediation. Innovative Alternatives, Inc. uses a very ‘purist’ style of mediation and has used a ‘transformative mediation model’ since long before there was a name for it. Some forms of mediation focus solely on a ‘meeting of the minds’ to resolve the issue at hand, while transformative mediation accomplishes this AND adds focus on preservation of the relationship at whatever level the parties may desire and/or dissolving it amicably. Our mediators guide disputing parties through proven stages of communication that promote reconciliation, settlement and/or understanding between them. Do you wonder if your marriage can be saved, let alone be happy and satisfying? Do you worry that you will not be able to retain good employees, let alone create a productive work environment? Are you concerned about your child’s conflict in school? Mediation promotes peaceful, effective, and thorough conflict resolution. This process is used for:
