Why should I donate to Innovative Alternatives, Inc.? Know this—when the economy is bad, nonprofit agencies are sometimes the only places people can turn to for help. Unfortunately, during these same times, when local agencies experience higher demand, we receive fewer individual donations or corporate support because people are afraid. When you lose your job and have no health benefits, where can you go to deal with your anxiety and depression and the resulting conflict within your family? You can turn to Innovative Alternatives, Inc. We have been here for 20 years and will continue to be here if you ever need us, as long as people like you continue to give during times when they have the means to do so. Nonprofit agencies are the very fabric of our communities. Most of these agencies go along doing their work with very little awareness or recognition from the public for many reasons—not the least of which is that our funders want their money going to service, not to advertising--and understandably so. Unfortunately, the great work we do is unnoticed and fundraising is often difficult. For instance, our area lived through Hurricane Ike. People and businesses tend to withdraw their annual support to the local nonprofits and give to the very large disaster relief efforts that can afford advertising, but which agencies were most responsive to the disasters and received the least donations? The local nonprofits and churches—some of which were also victims of the storm! Thankfully IAI was not damaged, but we continue to serve those who did suffer major loss and have not received a single donation from an individual for this purpose. We were forced to cancel our annual fundraiser as many of our corporate sponsors gave to large disaster causes before checking to see if they could help even more efficiently and effectively through IAI or other local agencies like us. People say that Innovative Alternatives is the best kept secret in Houston! Look through each of our program pages on this site and get a feel for the hundreds we serve in mental health each year—those with and without health insurance! We are working with sexually and physically abused children and men and women who were abused as children and are only now receiving help in adulthood. We are also helping with chronic mental health issues in families as well as teaching productive conflict resolution and anger management skills to those who simply wish to grow in their relationships as well as those in the workplace or in homes who have anger problems due to dysfunction. We are reconciling painful marriages—even arresting patterns of domestic violence through Family Intervention Mediation on a regular basis, healing generational family disputes and parental differences over discipline issues that are harming the child in the long-run. We are bringing peace and productivity—in fact creating positive work cultures that were once chaotic and dysfunctional--to the workplace. These are then maintained and protected by the employees themselves because it is so valuable for each individual as well as the workgroup’s emotional and mental health. And did you check out the results of our Violence Prevention Programs in the Schools? We are achieving unbelievable and quantifiable results—creating safer schools that are in fact, encouraging and caring cultures for our children so they may thrive in their academic, athletic and social abilities rather than live in fear of attending school because they often face severe or prolonged bullying. Again, these cultures are only attained and maintained by the general population—no school behavior manual, no employee handbook—ever controlled human behavior. Only other humans—through use of positive peer pressure of the populace can do that, and we have the proof that it works in numerous schools and thousands of kids each year! Want to help us take this nationwide? We can…….we want to…..we need partners…..will you….partner with us??? Are faith-based services important to you? The Bible says ‘what to do’ when we are in conflict, but not ‘how to do it’. What do I say to my boss or my spouse and how do I act with that person with whom I serve on a ministry team who has offended me, or if I think I may have offended them? Most of us avoid conflict because it is uncomfortable or because we have had terrible experiences when trying to work through it with others in our past. Unfortunately, this loses relationships for us, causes them to become destructive, or makes our faith look useless to others. We need skills. IAI offers these skills in faith-based formats at the request of our clients. We can also lessen burdens on pastors and budgetary expenses on churches. Please take the time to look into our program pages and examine our program services, accomplishments and appeals. If you wish to designate your donation to a particular program, we are more than happy to oblige, but please do give whatever you can. A thousand people who donate $10 each = $10,000! Every little bit counts. We do not hound our sponsors with numerous appeals every year, or waste your $10 donation on $20 of postage in repeated requests. Your money goes to service—which is why you may never have heard of us—but we really do very good stuff! Please give, so we may continue, because We find solutions,to life’s most difficult people problems! If you have ever been assisted by IAI, please consider becoming an annual sponsor. Donate Now! |
