Tonya Hammer, PhD, LPC Contract Therapist Tonya R. Hammer, PhD, LPC-S is a Licensed Professional Counselor and an Assistant Professor in the Counseling Department with the University of Houston-Clear Lake. She obtained her PhD from St. Mary’s University in May of 2008. Her Masters degree in Psychology and Counseling is from the University of Mary-Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas and her bachelor's degree is in English from the University of Texas, Arlington. She approaches counseling from a feminist perspective, specifically utilizing Relational Cultural Theory in her counseling. She also uses techniques for other theories including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. She is currently the president of the Texas Counselors for Social Justice Division of TCA and is a member of Counselors for Social Justice a division of ACA. She is also actively involved in the Human Dignity and Humiliation Studies Network, an international non-profit organization. She was also a case manager with Communities in Schools-San Antonio for approximately four years. Her areas of interest include women’s issues, human dignity and humiliation, and social justice. She is also an approved supervisor for training licensed professional counselor interns. |
