Christian Services
"Biblically Empowering Churches to Resolve Conflict Peaceably"
Our Christian service providers believe that through biblical principles, people are restored from hurtful experience, retored in relationships and enriched mentally, emotionally and spiritually. Therefore, on request of our clients, we provide Christ-centered counseling and mediation related services to assist believers in moving past old hurts and difficulties to experienceing healthier, fuller lives in Christ
SERVICE PHILOSOPHY
Since we offer our services in both Christian and secular formats, clients need to request a Christian counselor when making their initial appointment. Most insurance is accepted.
In using a Christ-centered component in counseling, behaviors, thoughts and emotional patterns are discussed in light of scripture. Our service providers never impose personal beliefs or doctrinal views on any client. Clients are referred to their pastors for discussion of any doctrinal issue. With a client’s release, Innovative Alternatives, Inc. is open to consultation with pastors as needed.
Mediation Philosophy
According to Matthew 18:15 & 16, “if your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault… if he will not hear, take with you one or two more,” and Matthew 5:25, “Settle matters quickly with your adversary who is taking you to court” These are the Biblical foundations for our mediation services. Church leaders may receive training from IAI Christian Trainers to learn to assist church members in resolving conflicts, or experienced mediators from IAI may perform mediations between members. This valuable service is needed throughout the Christian community to enable individuals to work through issues and conflicts. “Be angry, and yet do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and do not give the devil an opportunity.” (Eph 4:26,27)

RESOLVING CONFLICT GOD’S WAY
Developing Church Reconciliation Programs
Pastors and church members are often devastated by unresolved conflict. IAI partners with churches for consultation, training and establishment of internal, church justice programs, structured to address conflict at all levels of Matthew 18:15-35. One of the most difficult aspects of a pastor’s ministry is dealing with internal conflict in the church. It is hard not to alienate some individuals who want, or may even insist that leaders take sides. According to Proverbs 30:33, “stirring up anger produces strife…” Then, James 3:18 tells us “peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.” IAI consultants prepare pastors and leaders to implement an internal church-based conflict resolution ministry.
Church Crisis Response Services
Consultation and mediated interventions for churches in chaos from conflict, creating future prevention strategies.
Member to Member Mediation
We all know we are not to allow anger to cause us to sin (Ephesians 4:26), but keeping the peace is quite a challenge. Innovative Alternatives, Inc. offers mediation for church members in conflict. Utilizing biblically based principles, mediation not only resolves conflict, but it helps bring about forgiveness, reconciliation and fosters stronger relationships. What a witness of God’s Word in action…“as far as it depends on you, live at peace with everyone” (Romans 12:18)
Family Reconciliation Mediation
“...Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry, for man’s anger does not bring about the righteous life that God desires” (James 1:20) “…let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification (Romans 14:19). In keeping with God’s Word, we assist believers in reconciling conflicts with spouses, parents, siblings and extended family members through mediation.
Peer Mediation in Christian Schools
Train up a child...is a command that IAI takes seriously. IAI has been training students and faculty to implement Peer Mediation Programs in area public school districts since 1991; teaching students accountability and responsibility in relationships.
FAMILY PRESERVATION PROGRAM
IAI’s Family Preservation Program is an all inclusive comprehensive Christian approach to marital and family health and healing. We believe Biblical principles provide broad resources of wisdom, strength and guidance in helping marriages and families to function in a way that exemplifies Christianity. We believe in the power of God’s Word to mend the brokenhearted and restore damaged relationships, to provide guidance and comfort, to set the captive free, to increase one’s sense of worth to God, to resolve problems, to set standards for families to live by and to assist family members in forgiving those who have offended them.
Our main goal is to strengthen marriages. Unfortunately, in recognizing that Christian couples at times feel that divorce may be the only answer to their marital problems, we have established a service to assist couples in determining if divorce is really the only solution. After mediating the decision to stay together or divorce, couples are encouraged to receive one or more of our other Christ-centered counseling services listed below. Other services are available to assist the family in healthier interactions after a divorce. Clients are free to move among the program services as needed.
Services to Save Marriages
Pre-Marital Counseling Classes - These classes are specifically designed to help prepare couples for the “one-ness” of marriage. Our goal is to provide Biblically-based teaching and counsel that will increase awareness of the work involved in building a strong marriage that will remain a support and an adventure for the couple throughout their lives together.
Family Reconciliation Mediation - Mediation is structured, safe, and is highly effective in generating solutions to specific conflicts. Couples struggling with the same issues repeatedly can attend FR Mediation to make a focused attempt at finding a Biblically-based solution to the issues that are hindering relationships within the family.
Marital/Family Counseling - Provides an environment in which families can openly and honestly explore difficult issues, as well as discover and practice new behaviors with each other. Much work may involve forgiving old hurts.
Forgiveness Sessions - Matt.6:14 and many more scriptures speak of the importance of forgiveness. These sessions provide structured opportunity for individuals to identify injuries and the effects these have had on the marriage. Spouses have the opportunity to accept responsibility, offer apology, and seek forgiveness. Granting or withholding forgiveness is a deliberate decision directly related to the health and growth or deterioration of any relationship.
Family Conflict Resolution Classes/Workshops - These classes/workshops may be used by families having problems, or simply interested in improving their communication skills and learning new methods for resolving conflict more constructively.
Services to Assist in Lessening Adverse Effects of
Separation & Divorce
Divorce and Custody Mediation - In addition to mediating the divorce agreement, the couple generates norms for behavior to be respected both during the mediation and in the couple’s relationship following the divorce (Example: “We will never speak ill of each other in front of the children.”). Property and custody issues are mediated with emphasis on emotional and psychological closure of the marital relationship and on structuring the future parenting relationship. Healing from Divorce Therapy Groups - Separate groups are available for children, adolescents, and adults. These groups will provide age-appropriate therapeutic techniques to cope with issues of grief and loss, family re-organization, anger, depression, anxiety, fear, guilt, and shame. For adults, common issues are making sense of the divorce experience in light of religious beliefs, coping with financial strain, loss of their partner, becoming a single parent, recognizing problems in children, supporting the children and taking care of themselves.
Parenting Together after Divorce (Full-Day Workshop) - Parents learn the benefits to the children of co-parenting, communicating, and respecting each other as parents, as well as recognizing common responses of children to divorce. At the end of the workshop, a discipline plan is designed by the parents which can be followed for consistency in both households to avoid development of emotional and behavioral problems in their children.
